On 25 July 2025, a commemorative event marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, themed “A Witness to Peace and Happiness,” was held in Sydney, Australia. Wang Yu, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney, attended the event, together with representatives from Australian political, business, cultural circles, and the Chinese community.
In his remarks, Consul General Wang Yu stated that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. In the midst of war, the peoples of China and Australia stood united in their commitment to justice and shared a common destiny, leaving behind a collective memory of solidarity and resistance in the long course of history. He called for drawing wisdom and strength from history, and, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of China and Australia, further advancing bilateral relations in a positive direction, delivering greater benefits to the peoples of both countries, and contributing more certainty and positive energy to peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, while jointly safeguarding hard-won peace and upholding the outcomes of World War II and the post-war international order.
During the event, participants engaged in commemorative and exchange activities, reflecting on the historical significance of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and expressing shared aspirations for peace and development.
Jin Huang (Jin10Apr) was invited to attend the event and held brief exchanges with Consul General Wang Yu and other attendees.
Participants from all sectors widely agreed on the importance of remembering history, cherishing peace, and enhancing dialogue and mutual understanding among different cultures, in order to promote a more harmonious and stable international and regional environment.
